Bithumb's Biconomy Listing Shows Alarming Supply Mismatch
A data discrepancy on South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb has sparked concerns about the accuracy of token supply figures. According to a community post, Biconomy (BICO) is listed with a total supply of 1 billion tokens and a circulating supply of 1,000,242,811 tokens.
This creates a mathematically inconsistent situation where the circulating supply exceeds the total supply by 242,811 tokens. In standard tokenomics, circulating supply refers to the number of tokens available for trading in the market, while total supply represents the maximum number of tokens that currently exist, including locked or reserved tokens.
The exact cause of the discrepancy on Bithumb remains unclear, and neither Bithumb nor the Biconomy team has issued an official statement. This incident highlights broader concerns about the reliability of exchange-listed data, which is often pulled from third-party sources without real-time verification.
