BitMart Crypto Exchange to Shut Down Amid Market Turmoil
BitMart, a major cryptocurrency exchange, has announced its shutdown after nine years of operation. The platform will cease spot and derivatives trading on August 26 and officially close on January 31, 2027.
The decision to shut down comes as the BMX token, which is native to BitMart's ecosystem, has plummeted by 81% in value over the past week, reaching a price of $0.057. This drop reduces the token's market capitalization to around $19.6 million.
BitMart cited 'operating conditions' and the market environment as reasons for its shutdown, but did not specify any single event that led to this decision. The company also emphasized that it is not insolvent and has not received a regulatory order or security incident as the cause of the closure.
Withdrawals are still available on BitMart, although users can expect increased scrutiny and compliance checks, which may delay transactions. The exchange has warned customers against falling prey to scams exploiting uncertainty surrounding the shutdown.
