BitMart Shuts Down After 8 Years Amid Broader Crypto Market Shakeout
BitMart has announced it will shut down its operations after nearly eight years in business. The exchange will cease trading services on August 26, and officially close on January 31, 2027. New user registrations, deposits, and trading orders were suspended on Sunday.
The BMX token price plummeted more than 55% over the past 24 hours. BitMart's shutdown is part of a broader shakeout in the crypto market, with weaker platforms struggling to survive. The exchange cited 'operating conditions, market environment, and future strategic direction' for its decision.
Simon Dedic, Founder and Managing Partner at Moonrock Capital, said that the mid-tier exchange model has a 'fatal flaw' and needs a constant flow of new users. He believes this marks the markets as 'actually healing'.
