BitMart Shuts Down Trading Platform Amid Market Volatility
Crypto exchange BitMart has announced it will shut down its trading platform after nine years of operation. The decision was made due to 'operating conditions, market environment, and future strategic direction', according to a statement from the company. This news sent shockwaves through the cryptocurrency market, causing BitMart's BMX token to plummet by nearly 58% in just 24 hours.
The closure of BitMart marks the second major exchange to shut down this week, following perpetuals trading powerhouse BitMEX's announcement that it will cease operations after 11 years. Despite its significant trading volume, reportedly around $1.6 billion in 24-hour trades, BitMart has made the difficult decision to wind down its platform.
Users are being advised to complete identity checks, close positions, and submit withdrawal requests before August 26, when all trading will cease. The company has warned that withdrawals may face additional review, including identity verification and sanctions checks, which could delay processing if request volumes spike.
