BitMart to Shut Down Trading Platform Amid Financial Difficulties
BitMart, a popular cryptocurrency exchange among altcoin investors, has announced its decision to gradually shut down its trading platform. This move comes after an assessment of operating conditions and market environment. The exchange plans to cease new user registrations, deposits, and buy/sell orders as of July 26, with all trading services ending on August 26. The official closure is scheduled for January 31, 2027.
The exchange faced significant difficulties after a major security breach in late 2021, resulting in the theft of approximately $200 million worth of crypto assets. Following this incident, BitMart experienced operational and financial challenges. Despite its initial success, with a valuation of around $300 million and ranking among the top 10 exchanges globally by daily trading volume, the exchange's native token BMX has plummeted, losing 63% of its value in the last 24 hours.
