BitMEX Announces Permanent Closure for September 2026

Share

BitMEX, the cryptocurrency derivatives platform that pioneered perpetual swap contracts, will shut down permanently on September 23, 2026. The decision comes after a comprehensive strategic assessment by HDR Global Trading Limited, the exchange's parent entity.

The accelerated removal of trading products has been evident in July 2026, with 65 derivative instruments and trading pairs being delisted, nearly three times more than the 19 removed during January-June period. This move was attributed to 'inadequate trading volume.'

Account holders are advised to liquidate their positions and transfer assets before the closure date to avoid $50 monthly charges or a 1% yearly fee on dormant balances. Notably, BitMEX has maintained an unblemished security record throughout its operation.
