BitMEX Announces Shutdown on September 23, 2026

Share

BitMEX, once the dominant force in cryptocurrency derivatives trading, will cease all operations on September 23, 2026. The exchange announced that new account registrations are immediately halted and no new positions will be allowed after August 26.

The platform, which pioneered perpetual swaps with 100x leverage, commanded over 50% of the market at its peak in 2018-2019. Daily transaction volumes reached as high as $8 billion, with annual trading volume surpassing $1 trillion.

BitMEX's parent company cited a 'strategic review of business and market conditions' for the closure, reassuring users that their assets remain secured under their control.
