BitMEX Closure and HTX Sanctions Deadline Loom for Crypto Traders
BitMEX is shutting down permanently on September 23, 2026, after its parent company HDR Global Trading conducted a strategic review. The exchange's closure was announced on July 23, with new registrations stopped immediately.
Users who still have funds or positions on BitMEX are advised to withdraw their assets as soon as possible, as the platform can force-close remaining positions from August 26 onwards. After closure, users will only be able to log in for balances and historical transactions.
BitMEX's fee structure after closure is designed to incentivize withdrawals, with KYC-verified users charged the greater of $50 equivalent per month or 1% per year on remaining balances.
A separate deadline looms for HTX, which has been included in the EU's 21st Russia sanctions package. The transaction ban begins on August 23, but does not affect asset freezes.
