BitMEX Shuts Down Operations Amid Intensifying Competition

Share

BitMEX, one of the pioneering exchanges in the crypto derivatives sector, will shut down its operations by September 23, 2026. The decision comes after a strategic business review and intensified competition from larger global competitors.

The company's owner and operator, HDR Global Trading Limited, announced that trading services will cease after the given date, but users will still be able to log into their profiles to check balances, view transaction history, and withdraw any remaining funds. New account registrations have already been suspended.

In a phased closure process, BitMEX will begin forced closures of remaining positions before the final shutdown, with trades left open at the time of suspension being automatically liquidated. Contracts with lower liquidity will be settled early in accordance with the platform's current procedures.
