BitMEX to Shut Down Amid Crypto Market Turbulence
Crypto exchange BitMEX will cease operations on September 23, 2026, after 11 years in business. The company has urged customers to withdraw their assets and close any open trading positions before services are terminated.
In a statement, BitMEX cited a strategic review of the business and broader crypto industry conducted by its Seychelles-based shareholder, HDR Global Trading.
The closure comes amid weakness in digital asset markets. Bitcoin has surrendered much of its gains from last year's rally sparked by Donald Trump's US presidential election victory losing momentum.
According to Kaiko data, BitMEX records daily trading volume of around $400,000 and accounts for less than 0.01% of the market.
