BitMEX Wind-Down Continues as Bitget Expands into New Zealand
BitMEX is shutting down and delisting 35 derivatives contracts on July 30, 2026. The exchange's decision to wind down its business was announced earlier this week, with a full shutdown scheduled for September 23, 2026.
The delisted contracts include crypto pairs such as AAVEUSDT, DOTUSDT, SHIBUSDT, and UNIUSDT, as well as stock, commodity, and forex-linked contracts like TSLAUSDT, NVDAUSDT, NATGASUSDT, and EURUSD.
BitMEX said the delisting is due to low trading interest and its decision to shut down the exchange. The exchange will continue to operate normally until 04:00 UTC on July 30, at which point the funding rate will be calculated one final time and then frozen at zero.
In a separate development, Bitget has completed registration with New Zealand's Financial Service Providers Register (FSPR) and joined the Insurance and Financial Services Ombudsman (IFSO) dispute resolution scheme. This registration adds another layer of consumer protection for Bitget's New Zealand operations.
