BitMEX's Remaining Balance: 108K Bitcoin Held in Just Two Contracts
On August 22, 2026, BitMEX's public data interface reported an open value of 108,146 bitcoin across all active instruments.
This was just four days before the exchange blocked new position openings and four weeks before it ended trading altogether.
The distribution of remaining balance is heavily uneven, with the bitcoin perpetual against USDT (XBTUSDT) accounting for 53.5% and the ether perpetual against USDT (ETHUSDT) for 21.3%, totaling 74.8% of the remaining balance in just two contracts.
Five active instruments carry an expiry date, with four falling after the closing date of September 23, 2026. These contracts have a combined open value of 66.4 bitcoin and are likely to be settled early due to limited liquidity.
