Bitmine Accelerates Ethereum Purchases Amid Conflict-Driven Market Shift
Bitmine Immersion Technologies has significantly increased its Ethereum holdings to 4.66 million tokens, worth approximately $10 billion at current prices. The company's purchase of an additional 65,341 Ethereum in the week ending March 16 valued between $140 and $142 million. Chairman Tom Lee stated that Ethereum and the broader crypto market have outperformed equities since global conflict began.
Lee mentioned that Ethereum rose by 18% over this period, surpassing equity performance by 2,450 basis points. He cited eight historical examples to support his assertion that markets tend to bottom early in major conflict events, adding that negative scenarios are quickly priced in and counterbalancing opportunities consistently follow.
Bitmine's Ethereum holdings represent around 3.86% of the cryptocurrency's circulating supply, which stands at approximately 120.7 million tokens. The company aims to reach a long-term target of acquiring 5% of Ethereum's circulating supply, equivalent to about 6.04 million tokens.
The firm has staked 3,142,643 Ethereum through partners MAVAN and others, with projected annual staking rewards of approximately $272 million based on a 2.83% seven-day yield. According to Lee, Bitmine has staked more Ethereum than any other entity at this scale.
