BitMine Bets Big on Ethereum with Massive Staking Move
BitMine, a company founded by Tom Lee, has significantly increased its Ethereum holdings in a show of confidence in the cryptocurrency's future. The firm staked an additional 150,120 ETH tokens worth approximately $278 million on August 4.
This move brings BitMine's total staked Ethereum to 5,067,309 tokens, valued at about $9.38 billion, which accounts for 87.4% of the company's entire ether stack.
The decision to stake such a large portion of its holdings suggests that BitMine is committed to holding onto its position for an extended period rather than making short-term trades.
Chairman Tom Lee has repeatedly expressed his conviction in Ethereum's potential, calling it a multi-year 'supercycle'. The timing of this move aligns with the growing institutional interest in ether, as evidenced by the recent performance of Ethereum ETFs and BitMine's own stock price.
The company plans to use its staking operation, Made in America Validator Network (MAVAN), to generate yield on its Ethereum treasury. Eventually, MAVAN will be open to outside clients.
