Bitmine Immersion Technologies, an Ethereum treasury company led by Tom Lee, has made significant purchases of Ether (ETH) despite facing substantial unrealized losses. In the week ending August 16, Bitmine acquired 9,926 ETH, bringing its total holdings to approximately 5.82 million ETH or about 4.8% of Ethereum's circulating supply.

The company's portfolio value has reached over $11 billion, but this figure is largely due to its holdings being acquired at significantly higher prices. In contrast, the current price of Ether is around $1,900 per unit.

Bitmine is nearing its long-term target of owning 5% of Ethereum's total supply, dubbed the 'Alchemy of 5%' by Lee. To achieve this goal, the company must acquire an additional 180,000 ETH, which would amount to a further $345 million at current prices.
