Bitmine Edges Closer to 5% Ethereum Ownership Stake
Bitmine Immersion Technologies has continued its streak of purchasing Ether (ETH), adding another 53,501 units to its holdings last week. This move marks the company's 65th consecutive week of buying into Ethereum, a trend that began during the fourth quarter downturn when the cryptocurrency market plummeted.
The latest purchase brings Bitmine's total ETH holdings above 5.9 million, valuing its stake at around $14.8 billion based on an Ether reference price of $2,511 as of Sunday. This represents approximately 4.9% of Ethereum's circulating supply, narrowly below the company's publicly stated goal of reaching a 5% ownership level.
Chairman Tom Lee highlighted ETH's strong relative performance versus major crypto assets since June 30, stating that Ether, Bitcoin (BTC), and Solana (SOL) have been the three best-performing major assets during this period. However, despite this progress, Bitmine is still down around $5.1 billion in unrealized losses on its Ether position.
Bitmine's continued accumulation of Ethereum has been driven by a strategy to reach a 5% ownership level, with the company positioning itself as a significant player in the market. As it edges closer to this goal, investors will be watching closely to see how quickly Bitmine closes the remaining distance and whether Ether's price holds above its recent recovery range.
