Bitmine Narrowly Approaches 5% of Ethereum Supply as Market Conditions Improve
Bitmine, a publicly traded company, is making significant strides in its accumulation campaign for Ethereum. As of August 24, 2026, it holds approximately 5,847,611 ETH, valued at around $15 billion. This acquisition is worth roughly $81 million and pushes the company's total holdings closer to its self-imposed target of owning 5% of the entire Ethereum supply.
The current target stands at 6.04 million ETH against Ethereum's approximately 120.7 million token total, leaving Bitmine roughly 187,000 ETH short of achieving this milestone. However, with a strong market performance, particularly in the past week, where ETH gained around 31.5%, Bitmine has narrowed its gap to owning 5% of the supply.
The company's Chairman, Tom Lee, highlighted that the current rally is structurally similar to prior breakouts and pointed to easing financial conditions, White House support for crypto, and Treasury purchases of long-term bonds as factors improving investor appetite for risk. He drew comparisons with two precedent instances in 2021 and 2025, where such a weekly gain signaled a launch point for a larger move in ETH.
The accumulation campaign has not gone unnoticed, and Bitmine's holdings have significant implications for the company's stakeholders. The concentration of its assets means more staking revenue if Ethereum performs well but also greater exposure to falling prices, custody failures, financing costs, and regulatory shifts if it doesn't.
