BitMine Set to Surpass 5% of Total ETH Supply
Tom Lee, Co-Founder and Head of Research at Fundstrat Global Advisors, has been vocal about his bullish stance on Ethereum. In a recent podcast interview with Bankless, he discussed BitMine's acquisition of approximately 5.82 million ETH, which represents nearly 4.9% of the total supply.
This was achieved in just 14 months through equity financing alone, without any debt or convertible bonds. Lee emphasized that this 'clean' capital structure has allowed BitMine to maintain a consistent and disciplined approach to purchasing ETH every week for over 60 consecutive weeks.
'We only do the thing with the highest return on capital,' Lee explained, highlighting the company's focus on maximizing returns while minimizing costs. Over the last five weeks, BitMine has shifted its strategy to combine ETH purchases with stock buybacks, dynamically adjusting based on return on capital.
Lee also discussed BitMine's perpetual preferred stock BMNP, which was issued at $80 and traded around $91 at the time of the podcast. He described it as 'paying a 9.5% annual yield to buy a three-year at-the-money call option on ETH,' which he believes is an attractive investment opportunity.
