Bitmine Sinks $278M into Ethereum Stakes as it Nears 5% Supply Control
Bitmine Immersion Technologies has made another significant Ethereum stake, adding 150,120 ETH to its holdings worth approximately $278 million. This brings the company's total staked Ethereum to over 5 million, which is about 4.8% of the entire circulating supply.
The firm, led by chairman Tom Lee and traded on the NYSE under ticker BMNR, now holds around 5.8 million ETH in total. The 'Alchemy of 5%' strategy aims to control 5% of all ETH in circulation, and it appears Bitmine is already close to achieving this goal.
The staking operation runs through Bitmine's proprietary MAVAN platform, which generates projected annual yields between $247 million and $290 million. This creates a self-reinforcing accumulation cycle as staking rewards get reinvested, growing the company's ETH holdings and potentially increasing staking rewards in the future.
However, this concentration of 4.8% of Ethereum's supply in a single entity raises centralization concerns and potential regulatory scrutiny. Any reclassification of staking rewards or validator activities could significantly impact Bitmine's economics, while market risk remains as a sharp decline in ETH price would compress the value of its holdings and staking yields.
