BitMine's $11 Billion Bet on Ethereum's Tokenization Thesis
BitMine Immersion Technologies, a publicly traded company, has been accumulating Ethereum (ETH) since June 30, 2025. As of August 16, 2026, it holds 5,815,164 ETH, worth approximately $11 billion, which is about 4.8% of all Ethereum in circulation.
This large bet on Ethereum's value is led by Tom Lee, the founder of research firm Fundstrat and chairman of BitMine. Lee's thesis is based on two future demand drivers for Ethereum: tokenization of financial assets and payments between autonomous software.
The first driver, tokenization, refers to converting traditional financial instruments into tokens that live on the blockchain. Ethereum is seen as the natural rail for this traffic due to its size and battle-tested smart contract capabilities. The second driver involves software agents making real-time payments, which requires a digital-native rail like Ethereum.
The staking mechanism, where ETH is locked up to help validate transactions, has earned BitMine about $250 million per year in rewards. This steady income stream supports the company's long-term bet on Ethereum's value.
