BitMine's 11.8% ETH Stake Raises Concerns Over Validator Control
BitMine Immersion Technologies has amassed a significant staked ETH position equivalent to nearly 12% of Ethereum's active stake. As of September 7, BitMine reported 5.07 million ETH staked, representing about 85% of its total holdings of 5.93 million ETH, worth roughly $12.6 billion at current prices.
The company has not disclosed who controls the validators behind this staked ETH position, which is a critical detail in understanding its influence over Ethereum's consensus mechanism.
BitMine aims to own 5% of Ethereum's total supply and directs most of its holdings towards staking. However, ownership of staked ETH does not necessarily grant control over validator duties, such as proposing blocks and attesting to transactions.
