Bitmine's $69M Ethereum Buy Fuels Optimism for 'ETH 2.0'
Bitmine Immersion Technologies, the largest Ethereum treasury company, has made its biggest purchase of ETH since June, buying $69 million worth of the cryptocurrency. This latest acquisition brings Bitmine closer to its goal of owning 5% of all ETH in circulation.
The regular weekly purchases by Bitmine are providing a floor under the price of Ethereum, ensuring steady demand and guiding the price higher. This is particularly significant as Strategy, the largest Bitcoin treasury company, halted its Bitcoin buying operations this summer to focus on shoring up its balance sheet.
Tom Lee, chair of Bitmine and a Wall Street strategist, believes that Ethereum is entering a new era of mainstream adoption and wide-scale use cases, which he calls 'ETH 2.0'. He predicts that this could lead to Ethereum reaching $250,000 in price, with potential returns of 100x.
However, some investors remain skeptical about Ethereum's prospects due to its increasing competition from other top-tier blockchains and concerns over its founder Vitalik Buterin's vision for the project. Despite these doubts, Bitmine's continued buying is providing a reason for optimism among Ethereum investors.
