Bitmine's Aggressive Ethereum Buying Continues Amid Growing Staking Rewards
Bitmine, the Nasdaq-listed treasury company, continues to buy Ethereum (ETH) despite its existing staking position making further purchases unnecessary to reach its 5% ownership target. In a recent disclosure, Bitmine revealed it acquired 53,501 ETH in the week ending August 30, taking its holdings to 5.9 million tokens. The majority of these tokens are already staked at an annualized seven-day yield of 2.67%, generating approximately 135,000 ETH in staking rewards over a modeled year.
According to blockchain analysis platform Lookonchain, wallets linked to Bitmine appeared to acquire another 51,000 ETH worth about $126 million from FalconX and BitGo on September 1. If this transaction is confirmed, Bitmine would hold roughly 5.95 million ETH, leaving it considerably closer to its goal of owning 5% of Ethereum.
However, the size of Bitmine's existing position means staking income itself can become a major acquisition engine. At the current scale, staking rewards can close the gap between Bitmine's holdings and the 5% target without requiring additional purchases.
