Bittensor TAO Soars on Grayscale Rebalancing and Ecosystem Upgrades
The cryptocurrency Bittensor (TAO) experienced a surge of 3.11% over the past 44 hours, driven by several factors.
One key catalyst was Grayscale's Decentralized AI Fund rebalancing in early August, which highlighted Bittensor as one of its top two positions. The fund is now led by Near Protocol (NEAR) at about 31.35% weight, with Bittensor (TAO) close behind at roughly 29.15%. This rebalancing into TAO means that when new capital flows into the fund or when index rules shift toward AI, the product mechanically buys TAO, adding a structural demand channel.
Several ecosystem developments in the same period improved TAO's perceived utility and token economics. AEON Payments Integration announced on August 5 added support for Bittensor and TAO as a payment rail, enabling 'AI-native payments, autonomous commerce, and real-world spending' using TAO across a claimed network of more than 50 million merchants.
Additionally, Mentat Lend launched as the first native lending market for TAO. TAO holders can now deposit TAO into isolated pools and earn yield above root staking, while subnet 'alpha' (staked positions) can be posted as collateral to borrow TAO without unstaking.
