Bitwise Closes Dogecoin ETF Amid Weak Investor Interest
Bitwise Asset Management has announced that it will close its Dogecoin ETF (BWOW) by October 14, 2026. The last trading day for the fund is set for October 14, with cash payouts to shareholders scheduled for October 22, 2026. The decision reflects weak investor interest in the product, which held only $722,000 in assets as of its latest update.
The closure highlights that mere availability of a crypto ETF does not guarantee demand, especially for memecoins like Dogecoin. Investors prefer to trade these coins directly on crypto exchanges rather than through an ETF. This is evident from the relatively low assets under management and lackluster investor interest in BWOW.
European investors are largely unaffected by this decision as BWOW was a US product not widely accessible in Europe. Those holding BWOW through US brokers must decide whether to sell their shares by October 14 or accept the automatic cash payout on October 22.
