Bitwise Liquidates DogeCoin ETF Amid Weak Demand
Bitwise has announced it will liquidate its Bitwise DogeCoin exchange-traded fund (BWOW) less than a year after launch. The product, which began trading in November 2025, attracted only about $688,000 in assets and will stop trading on NYSE Arca in October 2026.
The company cited the need to 'optimize its product range to meet evolving investor needs' as the reason for closing the fund. However, the relatively low asset figure suggests that weak demand may have played a role.
This move highlights the challenges facing crypto ETFs targeting individual altcoins and memecoins beyond Bitcoin and Ether. The regulatory approval of such funds does not guarantee success, as sufficient assets, trading activity, and investor demand are required to justify operating costs and continued listing.
