Bitwise Shuts Down Dogecoin ETF Due to Low Trading Volume
Bitwise is liquidating its Dogecoin ETF (BWOW) on October 14, 2026, after roughly ten months of trading. The decision comes as a result of product optimization, according to Bitwise's announcement on September 10. With just over $688,000 in net assets, the fund will cease operations and begin its planned liquidation process.
Shareholders may sell their shares through the secondary market until October 14, but will not be able to purchase new shares after that date. The company has worked with NYSE Arca to facilitate an orderly delisting and liquidation. Bitwise will determine the final value based on the fund's NAV on October 21, and pay the cash to remaining shareholders on October 22.
The shutdown highlights challenges for specialty single-asset cryptocurrency ETFs, including low trading volume and asset size. The impending ETF liquidation is a negative factor weighing on DOGE's short-term sentiment, with the token currently trading in the range of $0.083 to $0.085. However, Bitwise is not exiting the broader digital asset market, and has introduced new products such as real-world asset lending vaults.
