Bitwise to Shut Down Dogecoin ETF After Less Than a Year
Crypto asset manager Bitwise is winding down its Dogecoin exchange-traded fund (ETF), less than a year after its November 2025 debut. The BWOW fund currently holds about $722,000 in net assets as of September 8 and will liquidate on October 14, with the remaining shareholders receiving cash based on their shares' October 21 net asset value.
Bitwise cited efforts to 'optimize its product range to meet evolving investor needs' for the decision. The company stated that shareholders do not need to take any action during this process and will receive the net asset value of their shares as of October 21 distributed in cash on October 22, 2026.
The BWOW fund allowed investors to gain exposure to Dogecoin through brokerage accounts without having to buy and store the cryptocurrency directly. Bitwise began pursuing the fund in early 2025 and launched it on November 26, 2025, offering a product that tracked the price of DOGE. The company's CEO, Hunter Horsley, initially pointed to Dogecoin's staying power and its holders' appetite for an exchange-traded product at the time of launch.
