BJ's Wholesale Club Surges on Stellar Q2 Earnings and Membership Growth
BJ's Wholesale Club reported stellar second-quarter financial results that exceeded analyst projections on all key metrics. The company's adjusted earnings per share reached $1.36, surpassing Wall Street's estimate of $1.17 by $0.19.
The warehouse retailer delivered revenue of $6.23 billion, a 16% year-over-year increase that beat the projected $5.97 billion. Comparable store sales grew 12%, with a 3.1% increase when excluding gasoline sales.
BJ's also saw a surge in membership fee revenue, expanding by 9.9% to $135.6 million. The company's total membership base reached an all-time high of 8.5 million during the quarter.
The strong performance led BJ's to upgrade its full-year adjusted earnings per share forecast to a range of $4.60-$4.80, exceeding the current Street consensus estimate of $4.53.
