BlackRock Clients Unload $122M in Bitcoin as ETF Redemptions Continue
BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) saw a significant wave of redemptions in recent days, with clients selling approximately $122.66 million worth of Bitcoin. This transaction adds to a pattern of ETF-related selling that has defined the Bitcoin market's rhythm throughout 2025 and 2026.
The 1,948 BTC redemption is just one part of a broader trend of fluctuating ETF flows that have characterized the market since these products launched in January 2024. In May 2026 alone, outflows from Bitcoin ETFs reached roughly 15,000 BTC, with some months recording over $3 billion in total ETF outflows.
IBIT has become one of the most successful ETF launches in history since its debut in January 2024. However, traders watching ETF flow data should be cautious not to read too much into a single day's redemptions. A sustained pattern of outflows exceeding inflows would suggest genuine de-risking by institutional and retail ETF holders.
The composition of the sellers remains unclear, with possible motivations ranging from profit-taking and portfolio rebalancing to genuine bearish conviction. Without more information, it is difficult to assign a single narrative to the data.
