BlackRock Cuts Threshold for Converting Bitcoin into ETF
BlackRock's bitcoin-based ETF, IBIT, has seen more than $5 billion in conversions from its investors. This is thanks to a lowered threshold for swapping Bitcoin into the ETF, which now stands at $1 million, down from $25 million previously.
This mechanism allows large crypto holders to move directly into traditional financial products without selling their assets first. The process involves transferring Bitcoin to the fund and receiving ETF shares in return, executed by authorized participants or market makers.
BlackRock's head of digital assets, Robbie Mitchnick, notes that this is an 'intermediary solution' for investors who do not want to hold Bitcoin themselves, calling it the best option among such solutions. Other market participants believe that the lower threshold could attract more funds to conversions and potentially increase the liquidity of IBIT and Bitcoin.
Several other companies, including Grayscale and Bitwise, are also expanding their in-kind creation mechanisms to Ethereum and Solana. This trend is expected to continue as infrastructure improves and more participants join the market.
