BlackRock Dominates Spot Bitcoin ETF Market with $1B Inflows
BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) has seen significant growth in recent weeks, accumulating over $1 billion in net inflows over the past 20 days. According to on-chain data from Arkham Intelligence, this influx of funds began with a notable session on August 27, where IBIT brought in $277.6 million. Another standout day was September 3, when daily inflows hit $454 million, a figure that most ETFs never see across their entire lifetimes.
The total holdings of IBIT now stand at approximately 785,000 BTC, with assets under management exceeding $60 billion. In contrast, Grayscale's Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) has seen outflows of around $254.7 million during the same period, leaving it with roughly 130,000 BTC and an AUM hovering near $10 billion.
The main reason for this disparity is the fee differential between the two products. IBIT charges a mere 0.25% annually, while GBTC charges a significantly higher 1.5%. This translates to a substantial difference in fees for investors, with IBIT offering essentially the same exposure to Bitcoin at a lower cost.
BlackRock's dominance in the spot Bitcoin ETF market mirrors its influence in traditional finance, where it manages around $10 trillion in total assets globally. Its distribution network gives IBIT access to financial advisors, wealth managers, and institutional allocators that smaller competitors cannot reach. The firm's presence has been a game-changer for the industry, with US spot ETFs collectively holding over 1.28 million BTC, roughly 6% of Bitcoin's total supply.
