BlackRock Drives Ethereum Price to $2,478 Amid Narrow Demand

Ethereum's price rose to around $2,478 on September 5, marking a significant increase since August 5 when it was at $1,907. The latest data shows that U.S. spot Ethereum funds collected only $215.3 million in net inflows over the past five sessions, with BlackRock Inc. supplying $218.2 million into two Ethereum funds over the same period.

This means that every other sponsor combined was a net seller, leaving Ether's advance unusually dependent on one asset manager. The influx of money from BlackRock is real demand, but it's narrow demand that may only support Ether through a volatile weekend.

The token's price has been steadily increasing, reaching an intraday high of $2,567 on August 27 and testing the $2,500 area over the past few days. However, staking income adds separate operational risk, including validator penalties, which could potentially affect Ether's value.

Macroeconomics can also impact Ether's price, with a hotter CPI reading raising yields and pressure on crypto valuations. Additionally, Ethereum has its own clock, with the Sepolia test-network fork scheduled for September 28, ahead of a tentative fourth-quarter Glamsterdam mainnet upgrade.
