BlackRock Exec: CLARITY Act Less Critical for Bitcoin Than Other Cryptos
Robert Mitchnick, head of digital assets at BlackRock, believes that the CLARITY Act is 'less critical' for Bitcoin compared to other cryptocurrencies. He thinks this is because Bitcoin has already achieved a level of regulatory acceptance not seen in other digital assets.
In particular, Mitchnick pointed out that institutional investors are treating any regulatory progress as potential upside rather than a requirement when it comes to Bitcoin. This suggests that they are not banking on further legislation as part of their base case.
Mitchnick also noted that Bitcoin's rally while equities struggled last week reflects its distinct risk and return drivers, rather than the old risk-on behavior that has confused markets at various points. He believes that investors concerned about global debt and deficits are increasingly drawn to Bitcoin, with younger demographics favoring it over gold for the same store-of-value role their parents' generation used gold to fill.
BlackRock continues to see strong demand for its crypto products, including IBIT's Bitcoin ETF, which has attracted significant inflows. Mitchnick also highlighted the growth potential of stablecoins in cross-border payments and capital markets, particularly with the Genius Act implementation approaching.
