BlackRock IBIT Suffers $122M Outflow Amid Worsening Bitcoin Returns
BlackRock's spot bitcoin exchange-traded fund IBIT saw $122 million withdrawn on Aug. 3, ending a three-week streak of net inflows in the U.S. spot crypto ETF market. This significant outflow was part of a larger trend, with the U.S. spot crypto ETF market recording net outflows of $265.37 million that day.
The redemptions were concentrated in IBIT, which is the industry's largest spot bitcoin ETF, managing $46.18 billion in assets under management. Analysts suggested that some investors who bought into ETFs near bitcoin's peak moved to sell and lock in losses as the one-year return worsened to about minus 45.62 percent.
Outflows continued at rival ETFs, with Fidelity's FBTC seeing $64.95 million withdrawn and Ark 21Shares' ARKB losing $17.54 million. This widespread selling pressure may impact bitcoin prices, which recently traded around $63,700.
