BlackRock Lowers IBIT In-Kind Conversion Minimum to $1 Million
BlackRock has adjusted its iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) to make it more accessible to institutional participants. The company reduced the in-kind conversion minimum from $25 million to $1 million, which allows authorized participants and qualifying institutions to create or redeem ETF shares using Bitcoin.
This change is significant because it lowers the operational threshold for institutional mechanics. In-kind processes allow approved parties to create or redeem ETF shares using the underlying asset rather than cash, making creation and redemption more efficient for institutions that operate in crypto markets or have access to BTC liquidity.
The reduction of the minimum from $25 million to $1 million may allow mid-sized players to participate in creation and redemption activity. This could improve flexibility around liquidity management and potentially support tighter spreads, better arbitrage, and more efficient ETF operations.
