BlackRock Lowers In-Kind Conversion Threshold to $1M for IBIT
BlackRock has lowered the minimum threshold for in-kind Bitcoin conversions into shares of its iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) from $25 million to $1 million, according to Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas. This move makes it easier for institutional and high-net-worth investors who hold BTC to convert their holdings directly into IBIT shares without first selling their Bitcoin.
The reduction in the minimum threshold is part of BlackRock's efforts to integrate digital assets into traditional investment vehicles, as stated by Robbie Mitchnick, head of digital assets. The firm plans to lower the threshold further over time, aiming to make in-kind conversions accessible regardless of trade size.
This change may increase demand for IBIT shares and potentially influence BTC's liquidity, according to BlackRock's decision to reduce the minimum threshold. Other spot Bitcoin ETF issuers have also offered in-kind creation mechanisms with varying minimum thresholds, which could be affected by this move.
