BlackRock Rolls Out Tokenized Share Classes for European Money Market Funds
BlackRock has introduced tokenized share classes for select European money market funds, giving investors access to high-quality, short-duration investment exposures in digital formats. The rollout covers $311 billion in assets under management across 12 funds, including ICS Euro Government Liquidity and U.S. Treasury funds.
The tokenized share classes utilize Kinexys' asset tokenization platform as a translation layer between onchain activity and traditional fund registers. Each digital token represents an underlying fund share, while the official shareholder register continues to be maintained via the fund's transfer agent infrastructure.
According to BlackRock, the launch enables 24/7 peer-to-peer transfers between approved investor wallets through smart contracts, providing near real-time onchain visibility and yield-bearing money market fund exposure. The tokenized share classes support emerging institutional use cases, including corporate treasury management and digital collateral management.
