BlackRock Sees Improved Investor Sentiment as Bitcoin Decouples from Stocks
BlackRock's head of digital assets, Robbie Mitchnick, has observed an improvement in investor sentiment towards Bitcoin over the past month. This shift is notable as it reflects a decoupling from stocks that began earlier this year.
The decoupling refers to Bitcoin's price movements becoming less correlated with stock market fluctuations. This trend suggests that Bitcoin may be maturing beyond its previous status as a risk-on asset tied to equities, and could potentially offer a diversification benefit in portfolios.
Mitchnick pointed out that the July episode where AI-related shares faced a sharp correction was a real-world test of this thesis. During this time, Bitcoin held up while tech stocks tumbled. This behavior implies that Bitcoin may provide a genuine hedge against extreme downside risk for investors.
Another significant development is that spot Bitcoin ETF investors appear to have a long-term holding bias, with most investors using these products for strategic allocation rather than speculative trading. This trend could reduce volatility over time and strengthen Bitcoin's position as a store of value.
