BlackRock Sees Shift in Bitcoin Investor Sentiment

BlackRock's digital assets head Robert Mitchnick has shared his observations on the sentiment among Bitcoin investors. Speaking to Bloomberg, he noted that there has been a noticeable but subtle shift in investor sentiment over the past month.

The iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), BlackRock's spot Bitcoin ETF, has maintained its position as the largest Bitcoin ETF despite the recent downturn. The fund holds net assets worth $48.51 billion as of August 7. IBIT hit an all-time high in October last year, but has struggled to recover since then.

According to Mitchnick, Bitcoin's decoupling from equities starting earlier this year is a positive development. He noted that when AI stocks had a significant pullback in July, Bitcoin outperformed significantly. This decoupling, he believes, is 'healthy' as it allows Bitcoin to act as a diversifier and potential hedge against certain portfolio risks.

Mitchnick also emphasized the long-term outlook of Bitcoin investors, stating that they tend to buy and hold it for the long term due to its volatile nature. He noted that each boom-and-bust cycle has ended with significantly higher values than the prior one, but with a bumpy ride along the way.
