BlackRock Slashes Entry Barriers for Bitcoin ETF
The minimum investment required to swap Bitcoin into BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) has been reduced from $25 million to just $1 million. This change, announced by Robbie Mitchnick, head of digital assets at BlackRock, allows Bitcoin holders to enter the trust without selling their coins first.
This move is significant because it brings in-kind exchanges within reach for more investors and reduces barriers to entry for smaller-scale traders. The swap is facilitated through authorized participants, large trading firms that create and redeem ETF shares.
Robbie Mitchnick stated that BlackRock aims to lower the bar further over time. This development comes as spot Bitcoin ETFs saw their best week since April, with more than $850 million drawn in last week alone, according to SoSoValue. The funds now hold about $78 billion in Bitcoin.
