BlackRock Sticks to 1-2% Bitcoin Allocation Amid Macro Concerns
BlackRock's latest report on Bitcoin reaffirms its stance as a strategic diversification choice for investors. The price of Bitcoin has surged by over 22% in the past two weeks, reaching $77,634, driven by mounting macroeconomic concerns such as resurgent inflation and rising national debt. BlackRock notes that despite this volatility, a modest allocation to Bitcoin within a traditional 60/40 investment portfolio can capture outsized returns through its asymmetric upside potential.
The firm emphasizes that even during sharp downturns, the impact on the overall portfolio would be relatively contained, as the recommended 1% to 2% allocation is within a conservative bracket. BlackRock's report comes amidst a confluence of factors that have redirected investors' attention back to cryptocurrency as an alternative asset class.
The U.S. Treasury's recent move to nearly double its long-term bond buyback program has been widely interpreted as an emergency measure to calm jittery bond markets, further eroding confidence in traditional fiat assets. Gold and Bitcoin have risen in tandem, signaling that some capital is rotating from traditional safe-haven assets into alternative investments.
