BlackRock Tokenizes €310 Billion in European Money Market Funds
BlackRock has expanded its tokenized money market funds beyond U.S. borders. The asset manager has launched share classes for select European money market funds within its $311 billion Institutional Cash Series (ICS) platform, which is now available on the Ethereum blockchain.
The ICS platform allows investors to gain exposure to cash and short-term debt securities through tokenized shares. By launching these new share classes, BlackRock aims to provide its institutional clients with a more efficient and cost-effective way to invest in European money markets.
While this move marks an important step for the adoption of tokenized funds, some experts have expressed concerns about the regulatory environment surrounding digital assets. Nevertheless, the launch demonstrates BlackRock's commitment to exploring new technologies and expanding its offerings to meet the evolving needs of its clients.
