BlackRock's $479M Bitcoin Buy Binge Dwarfs Market Fear
BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) has been absorbing massive amounts of Bitcoin this week, scooping up $479 million in just three days. This influx of funds accounts for a staggering 76% of total net inflows across all US spot Bitcoin ETFs during the same period.
The Crypto Fear & Greed Index sat at 25 during this stretch, firmly in 'Extreme Fear' territory. Yet, despite the market's anxiety, IBIT continued to attract investors, with one session alone seeing $244.4 million in inflows according to Farside Investors data.
Since its launch in January 2024, IBIT has accumulated nearly $61 billion in cumulative net inflows, exceeding the aggregate net inflows across all US spot Bitcoin ETFs combined. This dominance is not a coincidence; BlackRock's distribution network reaches into virtually every corner of institutional finance.
The structural mechanics of spot Bitcoin ETFs mean that every dollar flowing into IBIT requires the fund to purchase actual Bitcoin on the open market, creating genuine demand pressure on a finite supply asset. When $479 million enters in three days, it says something about where the smart money thinks the value lies.
