BlackRock's BITA Income ETF Sees Significant Losses Amid Option Gains
BlackRock's BITA income ETF has seen significant losses in its first operating period. Despite recording $344,849 in option gains, the fund's net assets decreased by $860,335. This represents a 28.7% offset of the combined $1.2 million in unrealized Bitcoin and IBIT losses.
The filing shows that BITA's underlying investments, including its holdings in Bitcoin and IBIT, suffered significant declines. The fund's NAV per share fell by 3.08%, from $50 on April 21 to $48.46 on June 30. Meanwhile, the price of Bitcoin decreased by 4.43% and IBIT fell by 4.75% over the same period.
The options entries in the filing demonstrate how the income strategy affected BITA's accounts while its underlying investments were falling. However, a direct comparison between the performance figures is difficult due to the different start dates used for each metric. A common window is required to accurately measure the downside protection provided by the fund's options.
