Blob Fees Plummet as Zcash Prepares for Ironwood Upgrade

The Ethereum Layer 2 networks have seen a significant reduction in fees thanks to the introduction of EIP-4844, also known as blobs. This update allows rollups to access temporary data packages, reducing the cost of transactions by 90% to 95%. Rollups combine hundreds or thousands of transactions before sending the necessary data to Ethereum, and blobs make this process cheaper. However, blob prices can still climb when several rollups compete for limited capacity during major market events.

The Zcash network is preparing to activate its Ironwood upgrade on July 28, which will introduce a new shielded pool and close Orchard to new outputs. Node operators must run Zebra 6.0.0 or a newer release to remain compatible. The update aims to address concerns surrounding Orchard and provide better privacy for users.

The memecoin market has seen a shift in trading activity, with institutional capital concentrating around Bitcoin, Ethereum, exchange-traded products, and tokenized equities.
