Blockchain Association Pushes Back Against Sheriffs' Claims Over CLARITY Act

The Blockchain Association has issued a rebuttal to the National Sheriffs' Association's claims that the CLARITY Act would weaken anti-financial crime efforts.

The association argues that the bill, which aims to establish a regulatory framework for decentralized finance (DeFi), would actually enhance law enforcement's capabilities by clarifying how existing financial laws apply to DeFi platforms and their operators.

The CLARITY Act seeks to define how DeFi entities are regulated under U.S. financial laws, bringing them into compliance with anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-financing of terrorism (CFT) obligations.

Lindsay Fraizer, chief policy officer at the Blockchain Association, emphasized the importance of correcting misconceptions about the bill before the vote, which is scheduled to take place before the Senate's August recess.
