Blockchain.com Expands Operations to Ghana, Citing Rapid Growth in Nigeria

Blockchain.com has expanded its operations to Ghana, announcing that it will offer brokerage services in the country. The company cited significant growth in Nigeria, where transaction volumes have risen by over 700% since it began offering retail services last year.

The London-based firm operates across more than 70 jurisdictions and plans to continue expanding into additional African markets. In Ghana, Blockchain.com has established local compliance representation and is working with regulators to develop a domestic cryptocurrency framework.

The company's general manager for Africa, Owen Odia, noted that Nigeria's performance demonstrates 'immense potential for digital assets across the African region.' To support its Nigerian business, Blockchain.com has built an operational base in Lagos, and it plans to replicate this model in Ghana.

Blockchain.com is hiring local teams for operations, partnerships, and regulatory engagement in Ghana. The company's expansion into Ghana reflects broader trends of cryptocurrency adoption in Sub-Saharan Africa, where the region received over $205 billion in on-chain cryptocurrency value between July 2024 and June 2025, a 52% increase from the prior year.
