Blockchain Fundamentals Trump Price Growth for First Time in Crypto History
Bitcoin's price has been consolidating around $64,000, and two prominent figures in the crypto industry are saying that this is a sign of a fundamental shift. Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley notes that for the first time in eight years of working in the sector, technological integration is progressing faster than price growth.
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong agrees with Horsley's assessment, stating that the industry has shifted its focus from short-term price cycles to modernizing financial rails. According to them, this change marks a new era for the crypto market.
The current calm in the market is attributed to the end of the four-year halving-cycle era and the clearing of excessive leverage from the market. Several real-world trends are supporting this narrative, including the tokenization of stocks and bonds on blockchain platforms like Solana (SOL) and Ethereum (ETH), which has become a standard practice generating direct revenue for DeFi protocols.
The stablecoin market capitalization has exceeded $300 billion, solidifying the digital dollar as a tool for international B2B settlements. Additionally, smart contracts are being used as a settlement layer for micropayments between autonomous AI agents.
