Blockchain Gaming Investment Dives 71% Amid Shift to Infrastructure Focus

Share

The blockchain gaming sector experienced a significant downturn in Q1 2025, with total investment plummeting by 71% compared to the previous quarter and 68% from the same period last year. According to a report from DappRadar, Web3 gaming projects raised only $91 million during this time, down from $314 million in Q4 2024.

This decline stands in contrast to a 35% increase in deal count, indicating that investors have not abandoned the space but are instead adopting a more measured approach. Analyst Sara Gherghelas noted that while investors are writing smaller checks, they're still actively engaging with a broader range of projects, which suggests continued interest.

The report also highlights a significant redirection of investment capital away from gaming-specific blockchain applications and towards real-world assets and artificial intelligence applications. Infrastructure development dominated the investment landscape in Q1, with projects focused on scalable gaming architecture receiving the lion's share of available funding.
